ACTIVITIESThe Alliance is involved in our activities which include: organizing the 2007 Regional Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Construction, 2nd Annual Toronto Regional Green Building Festival, a seminal publication entitled Canada Innovates: Sustainable Buildings Book Project and an awards program to recognize excellence in sustainable building practice.Bid to host the Regional Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Construction 2007 (Toronto SB07)The Alliance submitted a bid for the right to host a Regional Sustainable Building and Construction conference in 2007 (Toronto SB07).The bid was delivered to the three permanent co-sponsoring international organizations of the Global Conference on Sustainable Building and Construction and include: The International Initiative for a Sustainable Environment (iiSBE); The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB); and, the United Nations Environment Program’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (UNIP DTIE). The three permanent co-sponsors have accepted the bid submitted by the Alliance to host a 2007 conference. More information on the conference development will be available by the early summer of 2006. Toronto SB07 will provide a forum that serves as a focal point and catalyst to effect market transformation for the development and advancement of sustainable buildings, communities and development practices. The two-day conference will be dedicated to stimulating innovation and supporting the transformation of ideas from concept to a sustainable reality. The intent of Toronto SB07 is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge for the benefits of participants at the Global Conference on Sustainable Building and Construction to be held in 2008 in Melbourne, Australia. Toronto SB07 conference will accommodate up to 400 people from across Southern Ontario, as well as draw participants from the Great Lakes Basin communities in the U.S. involved in the building, construction and research sectors. The conference will be organized around the themes of buildings, systems and community services and highlight buildings that have met or exceeded national standards for environmental performance. The three permanent co-sponsors are expected to finalize which counties will host a regional conference sometime in the early summer of 2006.
